Perkataan Inggeris Yang Selalu Orang Keliru ( Commonly Confused Words )

Nak belajar bahasa inggeris dengan fasih, kena tahu banyak perkataan. Kadang-kadang orang sebut sesuatu perkataan tapi kita salah faham maksudnya. Sebab dalam bahasa inggeris, ada banyak perkataan yang mengelirukan. Sesetengah perkataan sebutan sama tapi maksud lain.

ACCEPT / EXCEPT

Accept ( terima ) : Don't accept anything from him.

Except ( kecuali ) : Everyone except Johan came for the meeting.

ADOPT / ADAPT

Adopt ( mengambil sebagai anak angkat ) : They have adopted a boy.

Adapt ( menyesuaikan diri ) : You have to adapt to new situations.

ADVICE / ADVISE

Advice ( nasihat ) : You must listen to your teacher's advice.

Advise ( menasihati ) : I would advise you to tell the police immediately.

ALL READY / ALREADY

All ready ( semua dah siap sedia ) : We were all ready to study grammar.

Already ( sudah/telah ) : She has already packed his bag.

ALMOST / MOST

Almost ( hampir ) : It is almost one o'clock.

Most ( kebanyakan/paling ) : Most of my friends are vegetarians.

BREATH / BREATHE

Breath ( nafas ) : Your breath smells of chocolate.

Breathe ( bernafas ) : Mammals cannot breathe under water.

BESIDE / BESIDES

Beside ( disebelah ) : She sits beside her son.

Besides ( selain/selain itu ) : Who else is coming besides me?

PRACTICE / PRATISE

Practice ( latihan ) : The practice will be held every Saturday.

Practise ( melatih ) : You must pratise writing your own essay.

PRINCIPAL / PRINCIPLE

Principal ( pengetua ) : The principal of this school is from Johor.

Principle ( prinsip ) : He has high principles.

QUIET / QUITE

Quiet ( senyap ) : Please be quiet because I want to sleep.

Quite ( agak ) : That is quite good.

SOMETIME / SOMETIMES

Sometime ( suatu masa nanti ) : Come up and see me sometime

Sometimes ( kadang-kadang ) : Sometimes, she is very helpful.

MEAN / MEANS

Mean ( maksud ) : What do you mean?

Means ( cara ) : There are various means we can try.

IT 'S / ITS

It's ( singkatan dari it is atau it has ) : It's time to go.

Its ( -nya ) : Guess its color.
